If your Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram has a factory MyGig touchscreen radio and you want to add a backup camera, the MG3 module is the plug-and-play way to do it. It is one of the most searched upgrades for these vehicles, and one of the most misunderstood. Here is exactly what it does, what to check before you buy, and how to know if you need one.
What is a MyGig radio?
MyGig is the factory touchscreen multimedia radio fitted to many Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicles. It is the large in-dash touchscreen with available navigation. If you are not sure whether your vehicle has one, see “How to tell” below, or send us your year, make, and model and we will confirm.
What the MG3 MyGig module does
The MyGig Camera Interface Module (MG3) is a plug-and-play interface that connects at the factory connector and lets your factory MyGig screen display a camera. It provides:
- A backup camera input, displayed on your factory screen
- An A/V input for an additional video and audio source
- Video in Motion
- Plug-and-play installation that works with both high and low-speed CAN-BUS
- A 12V power output for your camera (1A)
On automatic-transmission vehicles it switches to the camera view when you shift into reverse. On a manual transmission, the camera power is tapped to the reverse light wire.
Before you buy: a few compatibility notes
To keep things accurate and avoid surprises, the MG3 is not the right module if:
- Your vehicle has a factory Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) system
- Your vehicle already has a factory backup camera
It also does not add navigation. If your vehicle did not come with factory navigation, this module does not add it.
The MG3 adds the camera input, not the camera
This is the part people miss. The MG3 gives your MyGig radio the camera input and the power to run it. You still pair it with a camera that fits your vehicle. For many Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram models we offer a factory-style camera kit that mounts in the handle, emblem, or tailgate, so the result looks and works like it came from the factory. Browse the OEM Integrated Backup Camera collection, for example the Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Grand Cherokee, or Chrysler 200 kits.
Which vehicles does it fit?
The MG3 fits many 2007 to 2018 Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and Volkswagen Routan models equipped with a MyGig radio, including the Chrysler 200, 300, Sebring, and Town & Country; Dodge Avenger, Caliber, Caravan, Challenger, Charger, Dakota, Durango, Journey, and Nitro; Jeep Commander, Compass, Grand Cherokee, Liberty, Patriot, and Wrangler; and Ram trucks. Year ranges vary by model, so tell us your year, make, and model and we will confirm the fit and the right camera.
How to tell if you have a MyGig radio
- Look at your radio. MyGig systems use a large in-dash touchscreen rather than simple buttons and a small display.
- Check your radio’s sales or model code. It is often printed on a label on the radio itself or listed on your vehicle build sheet.
- When in doubt, tell us your year, make, model, and trim and we will confirm whether the MG3 fits and which camera kit you need.
